- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 4 cups apples, peeled and sliced
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
- Beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together until creamy.
- Add 2 cups of flour, salt, and vanilla extract; mix until a soft dough forms.
- Press the dough into the bottom of the prepared pan.
- Combine the apple slices with cinnamon and nutmeg; spread this mixture over the crust.
- Mix together the brown sugar, oats, 1/2 cup of flour, and melted butter until crumbly; sprinkle over the apple layer.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until the topping is golden brown.
- Cool for a few minutes before cutting into bars.
Notes
For a zesty twist, add lemon or orange zest to the apple filling. These bars can be made a day in advance and stored in an airtight container.
