Ingredients

  • 1 cup (240 ml) sour cream (or plain Greek yogurt)
  • ½ cup (113 g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 4 ripe bananas (mashed, about 2 cups)
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 2 cups (250 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ¾ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup (60 g) chopped walnuts (optional)
  • ½ cup (113 g) unsalted butter (for frosting)
  • 4 cups (480 g) powdered sugar
  • 1½ teaspoons pure vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • 3 tablespoons milk (more if needed for spreading)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper.
  3. Cream together the granulated sugar, sour cream, and softened butter until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the eggs, mashed bananas, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  5. Whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt in a separate bowl.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, mixing just until combined.
  7. Fold in the chopped walnuts if using.
  8. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread it evenly.
  9. Bake for 25–30 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean.
  10. Let the brownies cool slightly before transferring them to a wire rack.
  11. Melt the butter for frosting in a saucepan over medium heat until golden brown.
  12. Whisk in the powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk until smooth.
  13. Spread the frosting over the cooled brownies.
  14. Cut into squares and enjoy!
