- ½ cup active sourdough starter
- 1 ¼ cups lukewarm water
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ teaspoons fine sea salt
Instructions
- Combine the yeast starter and lukewarm water in a large bowl.
- Stir in the flour, then add the fine sea salt.
- Use a fork to mix everything until stiff, then bring the dough together to form a ball.
- Place the dough ball in the bowl, cover it, and let sit for 30 minutes.
- Stretch and fold the dough a few times, then reform it into a ball.
- Cover the dough again and let it rise overnight (about 8 hours) in a warm place.
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface and fold it a couple of times to tighten it into a ball.
- Let it sit for 15 minutes.
- Shape the dough again into a ball and place it into a well-floured proofing basket.
- Cover and let it rise for 2-3 hours or until doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 450°F, preheating your Dutch oven if using.
- Carefully move the dough to a parchment sheet and place it in the Dutch oven.
- Cover and bake for 20 minutes.
- Remove the lid and bake for an additional 30 minutes until deeply browned.
- Cool the loaf on a rack before slicing.
Notes
For a unique flavor, customize the loaf by adding herbs, seeds, or cheese. Use a serrated knife for clean slices.
