Description

A warm, creamy bowl of Cajun Shrimp Etouffee bursting with flavors and perfect for cozy evenings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup onion, diced
  • 1/2 cup bell pepper, diced
  • 1/2 cup celery, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 cups cooked rice
  • Green onions, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Melt the butter in a large pot over medium heat. Once melted, add the flour and stir continuously to create a roux, cooking until it turns golden brown.
  2. Add the diced onion, bell pepper, celery, and minced garlic to the pot. Sauté until the vegetables are soft and fragrant, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Gradually pour in the chicken broth while stirring to avoid lumps, and bring everything to a gentle simmer.
  4. Stir in the Cajun seasoning, and sprinkle in salt and pepper to taste. Let the flavors meld together for a few moments.
  5. Add the shrimp to the pot and cook until they turn pink and are fully cooked through, about 5-6 minutes.
  6. Serve your etouffee over a generous scoop of cooked rice, garnished with fresh, chopped green onions.

Notes

This etouffee is perfect for meal prep and can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days. Add your favorite vegetables or proteins for customization.
