Description
A warm, creamy bowl of Cajun Shrimp Etouffee bursting with flavors and perfect for cozy evenings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup onion, diced
- 1/2 cup bell pepper, diced
- 1/2 cup celery, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups chicken broth
- 1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 cups cooked rice
- Green onions, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Melt the butter in a large pot over medium heat. Once melted, add the flour and stir continuously to create a roux, cooking until it turns golden brown.
- Add the diced onion, bell pepper, celery, and minced garlic to the pot. Sauté until the vegetables are soft and fragrant, about 5-7 minutes.
- Gradually pour in the chicken broth while stirring to avoid lumps, and bring everything to a gentle simmer.
- Stir in the Cajun seasoning, and sprinkle in salt and pepper to taste. Let the flavors meld together for a few moments.
- Add the shrimp to the pot and cook until they turn pink and are fully cooked through, about 5-6 minutes.
- Serve your etouffee over a generous scoop of cooked rice, garnished with fresh, chopped green onions.
