Description

A cozy comfort food dish with creamy, cheesy layers of potatoes baked to perfection.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar or your choice)
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon paprika (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Layer half of the sliced potatoes at the bottom of a greased baking dish.
  3. Top with half of the sliced onions, followed by half of the cheese.
  4. Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, onions, and cheese.
  5. Heat the heavy cream, butter, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika in a saucepan until the butter melts.
  6. Pour the cream mixture evenly over the layered potatoes.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 60-75 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the top is golden brown and bubbly.
  8. Let cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

You can assemble the layers in advance and store them in the fridge. Use a mandoline slicer for even, thin slices that cook beautifully.
