Description

Delightfully fluffy doughnuts made with sourdough starter, perfect for cozy breakfasts or gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sourdough starter
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • Oil for frying
  • Sugar and cinnamon for coating

Instructions

  1. Mix together the flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, baking soda, and cinnamon in a large bowl.
  2. Combine the sourdough starter, milk, eggs, and melted butter in another bowl.
  3. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients gradually, mixing until just combined.
  4. Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Drop spoonfuls of dough into the hot oil, frying until golden brown on both sides—about 2-3 minutes per side.
  6. Remove the doughnuts and drain on paper towels to soak up excess oil.
  7. Toss them in a mixture of sugar and cinnamon while still warm.
  8. Serve and enjoy immediately!

Notes

For variations, try lemon glaze, maple pecans, chocolate dipping, or stuffing with jam. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
