- 2 lbs beef round steak
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons oil
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
- 1 cup beef broth
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 bay leaf
Instructions
- Cut the beef round steak into serving pieces and pound them with a meat mallet to tenderize.
- Dredge the meat in flour, shaking off the excess.
- In a large skillet, heat oil over medium heat and brown the meat on both sides until golden.
- Remove the meat from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the chopped onion and cook until translucent and fragrant.
- Stir in the diced tomatoes, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper, letting the flavors meld together.
- Return the browned meat to the skillet and add the bay leaf for extra depth.
- Cover and simmer on low heat for about 90 to 120 minutes, or until the meat is tender and infused with flavor.
- Serve hot with the luscious gravy over a bed of creamy mashed potatoes or fluffy rice.
Notes
This dish can be made a day in advance for deeper flavor. Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to three days.
